How Rotate PDF pages works

PDF Rotate shows every page of your document as a thumbnail with its own Rotate 90 degrees button. Each click adds a quarter turn to that page alone and the thumbnail turns with it, so you see the result before downloading. Pages you never click keep their original orientation. The tool uses pdf-lib running inside your browser tab, so the PDF file never needs to be uploaded to any server or cloud service.

Rotation in PDF works by updating the rotation entry in each page's dictionary. The embedded text, images, fonts and bookmarks are all preserved exactly as they were. Because the change is metadata rather than a pixel-level redraw, the output is not a re-rasterised copy: the file stays as a true PDF with selectable text and crisp vector graphics at any zoom level. This is particularly useful for scanned documents where the scanner output alternating portrait and landscape pages, or where a single page was fed in sideways.

How to use Rotate PDF pages, step by step

  1. Upload your PDF to the rotation tool.
  2. Click the Rotate 90 degrees button under any page thumbnail; click again to keep turning that page.
  3. Repeat on every other page that needs it: each page keeps its own rotation.
  4. Click rotate and download the adjusted PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating pages affect the text layer or make text unsearchable?

No. The rotation updates the page's orientation metadata, not the actual content stream. Text, fonts, vector graphics and bookmarks are preserved exactly. The result is still a true PDF with selectable and searchable text.

Can I rotate only one specific page and leave the rest unchanged?

Yes, and that is the only way the tool works: rotation is per page, applied by clicking that page’s own button. Pages you never click keep their original orientation.

What is the difference between rotating 90 and 270 degrees?

Rotating 90 degrees turns the page clockwise (right side becomes the bottom). Rotating 270 degrees turns it counter-clockwise (left side becomes the bottom). Rotating 180 degrees flips the page upside down.

Is the file transmitted to Sunasty when I use this tool?

No. pdf-lib handles the rotation entirely inside your browser. Your PDF is read into local memory, the page rotation values are updated there, and the output file is assembled in memory and saved directly to your device. Nothing is transmitted to Sunasty or any external service.

Does the tool work on password-protected PDFs?

If a PDF has a user password, it must be provided before the file can be opened for processing. If it has only an owner password that restricts editing, you may need to remove that restriction with the PDF Unlock tool first.

Can I undo the rotation after downloading?

Not within this tool, but you can simply open the downloaded file again and rotate by the complementary angle, for example rotate by 90 to undo a 270-degree rotation.
