Tip Calculator

Work out the tip, total and each person's share, entirely in your browser.

How Tip Calculator works

The Tip Calculator splits any restaurant or service bill in seconds. Enter the pre-tax bill amount, choose a tip percentage from the preset buttons or type your own, set the number of people splitting the bill, and the tool instantly shows the tip total, the grand total, and the exact amount each person owes. Nothing is sent to a server: the arithmetic runs entirely in your browser.

The per-person split divides the full total (bill plus tip) equally. A separate tip-per-person line shows each guest share of the gratuity on its own, which is handy when the bill is already rounded but you want to add a clean tip amount per head.

How to use Tip Calculator, step by step

  1. Enter the bill amount before tax.
  2. Choose a tip percentage from the preset buttons (10, 15, 18, 20, 25%) or type a custom value.
  3. Set the number of people sharing the bill.
  4. Read the tip amount, total bill and each person's share from the result panel.
  5. Adjust the tip percentage or party size and the result updates immediately.

Common use cases

  • Splitting a restaurant bill fairly at a large table where people want to see the exact per-person figure before handing over cash.
  • Deciding what tip percentage to leave for a delivery driver or hotel porter when you want to check the total in advance.
  • Comparing the total cost of 15 percent versus 20 percent tipping when you are on a tight travel budget.
  • Splitting a taxi or rideshare fare with tip included among several passengers.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool send my bill amount to a server?

No. Every calculation happens locally inside your browser tab. Nothing you enter, whether the bill amount, tip percentage or party size, ever leaves your device. The page works offline once it has loaded.

How is the per-person amount calculated?

The tool first multiplies the bill by (1 + tip rate) to get the grand total, then divides that total by the number of people. Example: a 50 dollar bill with an 18 percent tip gives 59 dollars total; split four ways that is 14.75 dollars per person.

What tip percentage should I leave?

Conventions vary by country. In the United States, 15 to 20 percent is standard for table service and 10 percent for counter service or takeout. In France a service charge (service compris) is often included, so an additional tip is optional. In Japan tipping is not customary. Use the custom field to enter any value that fits your situation.

What if the bill already includes a service charge?

Enter only the portion you want to tip on. If a 12 percent service charge is already included in the printed total, you can enter zero in the tip field and use the split feature to divide the total by party size.

Can I use it for currencies other than the dollar?

Yes. The calculator works with any currency. It does not format or convert currency symbols; it just does the arithmetic, so enter the amount in whatever currency you are using.

Does the tip calculator work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded, every calculation is pure browser arithmetic with no network dependency. You can close your Wi-Fi and the tool keeps running, which makes it reliable at restaurants with patchy mobile coverage.
