How Passport Photo Maker works

The Passport Photo tool crops an existing photo to the exact pixel dimensions of a passport, visa or ID format, 35x45mm for Schengen/EU/UK, 2x2in for the US, 50x70mm for Canada, 33x48mm for a China visa, or 51x51mm for India, at 150, 300 or 600 DPI. Drag to reposition and use the zoom slider to frame the shot inside a guide overlay that marks the head-height band each format expects, then export a single photo or a print sheet tiling as many copies as fit on a standard 10x15cm page.

The crop, the mm-to-pixel conversion and the sheet layout all run on a canvas element in your browser: the photo is never uploaded, resized on a server, or stored anywhere outside the current tab.

How to use Passport Photo Maker, step by step

  1. Drop or choose a photo where your face and shoulders are clearly visible.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool guarantee my photo will be accepted?

No. It only crops and resizes to the target pixel dimensions and draws a manual head-height guide; it does not check background uniformity or color, lighting, shadows, glasses reflections, expression or head pose, and it runs no face detection at all. Always confirm the exact photo rules with the passport, visa or ID authority you are submitting to.

Does it automatically detect and center my face?

No. Framing is entirely manual: you drag to pan and use the zoom slider, guided by the dashed head-height band drawn for the selected format. There is no automatic face detection in this tool.

What does the DPI setting actually control?

It sets how many pixels the millimeter dimensions convert to (for example 35mm at 300 DPI is about 413 pixels). Printing the exported file at its actual size, without letting your printer or photo app rescale it to fit the page, is what keeps the physical result at the correct size.

Why are only five document formats listed?

These cover the most commonly requested passport/visa/ID sizes, but the list is not exhaustive and requirements vary by country and by document type (passport versus visa versus national ID). Check your destination's official specification before using the result.

Can I print several copies on one page?

Yes. Export print sheet tiles as many copies of the cropped photo as fit on a 10x15cm (4x6in) sheet at your chosen DPI, with a small margin and gap between cells, ready to send to a photo printer.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The image never leaves the browser tab: cropping, the head-height guide and the print sheet are all drawn with the canvas element locally, and the export is a direct download.
